Starting November 27th, 2023 the US Drug Supply Chain will not ship drug products without also exchanging the associated serialized data.

Pharmacists & Dispensers need to know their responsibilities under DSCSA. Pharmacies must follow these requirements to protect patients from receiving harmful drugs.

Confirm the license and registration of entities you do business with

  • Check the registration of manufacturers and repackagers.
  • Check the licensing of wholesale distributors and third-party logistics providers.
  • Check the licensing of pharmacies through the respective state authority.

Receive, store, and provide product tracing documentation

  • Only accept prescription drugs accompanied by all three pieces of T3 data: Transaction History (TH)
    Transaction Information (TI)
    Transaction Statement (TS)
  • Store the product tracing documentation in paper/electronic format for six years.
  • Generate and provide product T3 data if you sell a prescription drug to a trading partner. You do not need to provide this information when you dispense a prescription drug to a patient.

Investigate and handle suspect and illegitimate drugs

  • Quarantine and investigate suspect drugs to determine if they are illegitimate.
  • Work with the manufacturer to ensure patients do not receive the drugs.
  • Notify FDA and the trading partners you bought the drug from or sold the drug to.
